Maths with Whaea Danielle

Room 8 was very fortunate to have Whaea Danielle in our classroom. She taught us a lot about decimals like how to read and say decimal numbers, how to use the equipment to show a decimal number and how to order some decimal numbers. Thank you Whaea Danielle, hopefully we will get another lesson from you soon.

Turbo Touch!

Throughout this term Room 8 has had some sport sessions with a few guys from Counties Manukau sport. We have learnt some soccer skills and different ways to pass a rugby ball. We also learnt how to play turbo touch. Whaea Ata even joined in with us, but nobody took photos.

Electricity Topic

Room 8 have come to the end of learning about electricity throughout this term. We have learnt a lot about series circuits and parallel circuits, what electrical and non-electrical items are and how electricity travels from one place to another. A highlight about this topic was getting to play with the brain box sets. For most of us, we could build different things without Whaea Ata's help. We can't wait to play with them again!

Whaea Vivienne's Farewell

Clendon Park School put on a wonderful farewell for Whaea Vivienne (our lovely tuck shop lady) who probably knew more students than any other teacher. Here's a mini snippet of Te Puawai and Te Whanau Awhina doing a 'flash mob' - showcasing their aroha for Whaea Vivienne and also releasing all that ihi.

Term 1 Noho Marae

Just over 2 weeks ago Rooms 8, 9 and 13 all came together and spent a night at school. On Thursday 13th of March we split our boys and girls. The boys were very lucky to have Matua Richard for an hour or so where he taught the boys not only a haka, but also how to use a mau rakau. They also talked about the different parts of a taiaha and discussed various actions as well. The girls were fortunate enough to learn a very short waiata (Purerehua), a few poi actions to go with the song and got to play with the Tiitii Toria sticks.

The following day the students then got to participate in a range of sporting activities. They visited the swimming pool first for a quick dip, then quickly moved on to doing some team building activities with the Maia tam - Fasi and Cullen. After a very energising set of activities, our students then headed off to the hall to perform their songs they had learnt. Following on from this, was a pool party with a sausage sizzle and then our students were taught how to play Ki-o-rahi.

We all had an awesome set of two days and here some photo's to share with you, enjoy!

Kapa Haka

Over the last couple of days a number of students from Rooms 8, 9 and 13 have been practising and learning a few items for Fiafia night. The video's that have been uploaded are from our second practice. We have definitely learnt a lot within a short amount of time.

This week in our reading program we have been following the news about the 'Missing Malaysian Airline'.

We have read articles, watched the news, presented information and discussed our thoughts about this tragic event.  We have even discussed some ways of how we could offer some help and support.
